Frequently Asked Questions
By sharing the Child Shield, U.S.A.™
educational materials with your children you can
dramatically reduce their risks of ever becoming
lost or missing. Even though we hope and trust
that you will never need to call on us to help
find your child, there is a better than 1 in 100
chance your child may become missing, therefore it
pays to be prepared. Here are the most commonly
asked questions about the Child Shield, U.S.A™
program:
Q: It
will never happen to me! A:
Child molesting predators hope you will have this
false belief. Many parents do, and the problem has
increased nearly 500% since 1986. Ask the parent
of any missing child and they will say "I talked
to my child and thought it could never happen to
me". Ignorance won't protect your child, education
and Child Shield, U.S.A™ will.
Q: Why would a parent be
interested in Child Shield, U.S.A™?
A: Simple! According to the
National Center for Missing and Exploited
Children, over 10,000 out of every 1,000,000
children in the U.S., will be reported missing
this year and 40% are never found. Since 1990
Child Shield, U.S.A™. has marketed over 1,000,000
of their child safety kits and has had only 2
children reported missing. Which group would you
want your child in? (Furthermore, both children
were recovered safely) We have the only missing
child prevention program in the country proven to
work.
Q: How long is the
service good for? A: The video
and picture are stored for two years. You can
safeguard all your children for less than $15.00 a
month. Insuring your car is many times more (And,
your car can be replaced if it's stolen.)
Customers automatically receive a new kit at 24
months to update the picture and video and there
is no additional cost for updating.
Q: Who makes the
video? A: The service is
designed to permit parents to make their own
children's video. One of the key elements that
make parents comfortable with Child Shield, U.S.A™
is the security that comes with knowing that no
"stranger" will be videoing their child. The Child
Shield, U.S.A™ Registration Service comes with
complete instructions that will teach you how to
properly make your child's identification video in
the privacy of your own home using any camcorder.
(No camcorder, No problem! Everybody has at least
one friend or relative who would gladly lend his
or her camcorder for this lifesaving
registration).
Q: How many children
can you put on one tape? A:
Only one child per tape, please! Each tape is
given its own identification number, which
corresponds to the child whose image is on that
tape. This eliminates any risk that a wrong
child's video could ever be transferred and
distributed.
Q: Does Child Shield,
U.S.A™ actually store and protect the video at no
additional cost? A: Yes, the
Child Shield, U.S.A™ program includes protected
storage of each child's video to insure an
immediate response whenever a child becomes lost
or missing. To further insure security, the exact
storage location of the video is known only to
Child Shield, U.S.A™ Executive Officers, its
Insurance Company and the Chief Legal Counsel for
the law firm that represents Child Shield, U.S.A™.
Q: Will I feel
comfortable having Child Shield, U.S.A™ safeguard
my child's video? A:
Absolutely! Child Shield, U.S.A™ does not receive
or store data or information on any child. Each
child's video is identified by a secret code
number known only to the parents. We have no way
of knowing the identity of any registered child
unless the parent reports the child missing. Even
if it were possible for someone to locate and gain
access to our storage facilities it would in no
way jeopardize the welfare of any of the children
on the videos that are stored there. With only the
secret code number to go on, one would have to
search every home in America to find any of Child
Shield, U.S.A™ registered children. Even so we
still have in place appropriate security measures
to prevent unauthorized access and to safeguard
the tapes from other hazards, such as fire and
flooding. (Frankly, you put your child in far more
jeopardy every time you have a roll of film
developed. Not only does everyone that works for
the store and film lab have access to your
children's picture, they have your name, address,
and phone number too. In addition, States do not
have laws against videotaping in public. Why would
anyone risk breaking in to steal an anonymous
video when they could go to the park or mall and
make their own, legally?)
Q: Is there any other
program like Child Shield, U.S.A™?
A: No! No! No! Child Shield, U.S.A™ has the
only comprehensive and complete service protecting
children.
Q: Aren't you
marketing based on fear? A: No,
any program that uses fingerprints, DNA, I.D.
cards, Amber Alert, tracking devices, etc. are
based on fear. The only time those things are used
is when your child is missing. Fingerprints, DNA
and I.D. cards are used for identifying a body not
locating a missing child. We've built our
reputation on preventing children from becoming
missing and have the only proven program in the
country.
Q: What about the
"Amber Alert" and other programs?
A: There are many other child
safety programs around. While most give some
benefit, none offer the benefits of the Child
Shield, U.S.A™ service. Foremost, we have the ONLY
missing child prevention program in the country
with over 16 years of statistics proving it works.
A child registered with us is much less likely to
become missing than one that's not. The "Amber
Alert" is a good program and varies from community
to community. What is not publicized about the
"Amber Alert" is that less than 1% of the lost,
missing, or runaway child cases in America
actually qualifies to use it, 99% do not qualify.
Q: What about child
I.D. services, don't they protect kids too?
A: We really don't consider any
program, which relies solely on a still
photograph, fingerprint or DNA to be a viable
alternative to our services. The photos and I.D.
cards are only about one square inch, a size too
small to enlarge clearly enough to be an effective
tool for law enforcement, we do not believe it is
logical for a parent to pay $10.00 or more for
someone to type out a card with information that
no one would ever forget on their own child.
Additionally, these cards often include a
thumbprint. This is of no real value unless the
child is first recovered to see if the prints
match. Sadly, this form of identification often
ends up being used by identifying a body, rather
than helping reunite a living child with their
parents. (For the record we have nothing against
any of these programs, in fact, we applaud them
for their efforts. It's just that we know that in
today's world parents need a more comprehensive,
one-stop, IMMEDIATE source for protecting
their child and helping out in an emergency.)
Q: After my child is
reported missing, what is the cost for Child
Shield, U.S.A™ to produce and transmit my child's
video and photo world wide, if necessary, put up
the reward and hire the private investigator?
A: There is no extra cost! This
service is provided with the program. We will
always consult with the law enforcement agencies
for their input as to where they also would like
the videos and photos distributed.
Q: Why does your
program work? A: The Child
Shield, U.S.A™ program was developed over 3 years,
it's enough information that the child learns
without being overwhelmed or scared. The coloring
book makes it fun and the poster is a constant
reminder of the safety rules. Most important it
comes from mom & dad, so a child picks up on
the seriousness of it. Programs that come from
adults other than parents (including police
officers) have not been proven to work. There is
something subconsciously contradictory to a child
(here is a stranger telling me not to talk to
strangers?)
Q: How about GPS
Tracking Devises? A: There may
be a useable system in the next 5 to 10 years,
however there are many drawbacks with current
technology:
- Expenses - units cost upwards of $200 and
require yearly service contracts of over $300.
- Criminals are smart. If they have any reason
to believe a child is wearing one (current
models are very bulky) they will remove it by
any means possible (including injuring the
child). They could then throw it in a passing
truck and further hinder or delay any recovery.
- They have coverage areas. If outside the
area no tracking is possible. Tracking not
possible inside newer buildings.
- Can give parents a false sense of security,
which could give a criminal even more get-away
time.
- Most important, they provide no prevention
against the problem. If a parent is willing to
incur the expense of a tracking system surely
they would invest in Child Shield, U.S.A™ to
prevent their child from becoming missing.
